A BIT ABOUT US
Working Towards a Better Tomorrow For Our Community
About Us
Empowering Our Community Through Lifelong Learning
At Taupō Learning Centre, we believe in the potential of every individual. As a community-driven organisation, we are passionate about creating opportunities for growth, learning, and empowerment. Since our inception, our mission has remained clear: to support people in their learning journeys, foster personal and professional development, and contribute to a stronger, more connected Taupō community.
Our History
Over 40 Years of Community-Based Education
Taupō Learning Centre is a registered charitable organisation with deep roots in the local community. Our journey began near five decades ago as part of ARLA (Adult Reading & Learning Association), with dedicated volunteers visiting learners in their homes to provide literacy support.
In 2005, we moved into Waiora Community House and began employing a part-time coordinator to support our growing team of volunteers. Together, we delivered literacy and numeracy programmes three days a week. By 2010, we expanded our team with a second coordinator, allowing us to secure new funding and introduce group learning programmes.
Recent Growth
Adapting to Meet Evolving Needs
In 2017, we relocated to our learning campus at 3 Gascoigne Street. This move enabled us to offer a broader range of adult education programmes in a welcoming and well-equipped space. Today, we are proud to be recognised as an independent, community-led education provider that responds quickly to changing needs.
Our focus is on delivering practical, skills-based learning that helps individuals progress in their personal and professional lives and engage more fully in the community.
Looking Ahead
Building a Brighter Future Together
We are excited about the future and remain committed to supporting learners of all backgrounds. As our community continues to grow and evolve, so too will our programmes and services—ensuring that everyone has access to the tools they need to thrive.
